Late At Tate Britain - 06.06.14
Late at Tate is a programme of events for young and diverse audiences held at Tate Britain on a bi-monthly basis; featuring music, film, fashion and live performance.
The next Late at Late is looking at the notion of Inhabitation. Taking inspiration from artwork in the Tate Collection and the Phyllida Barlow commission, Tate Collective London and student ambassadors from University of the Arts London’s widening participation programmes, have collectively programmed a series of workshops, talks, performances, and live music that explore themes and ideas central to Barlow’s work.
The evening will explore what it means to occupy space through sound and visuals focusing on issues of displacement, marginalisation, and feminism. Explore Tate Britain and its collection in new and interesting ways.
This event is a collaboration between University of the Arts London and Tate Britain.

Music MogaDisco With a passion for African music, MogaDisco will start off the party outside drawing on their favourite genres, from Soukous to Hi-life, and Afrobeat to Jùjú. Skinny Girl Diet With a feminist agenda, Skinny Girl Diet, the all female punk band from London challenge stereotypes and perceptions of society. Beautiful but deadly, expect gritty signature sound incorporating haunting harmonies and piercing screams. Dionne Reid The soulful singer with sweet sounding laid back vocals fused with fantastic energy. Dionne Reid’s smooth blend of real lyrics and simple melodies bring originality back to music, guaranteed to leave a lasting impression. Reprezent Radio Reprezent will be headlining the outside stage with performances from the hottest underground MC ‘Novelist’ backed up by Martha Caiden on the decks playing bass heavy sounds. Blackmale Beats Experience a twist of music and conversation on British hip hop, location and culture by South London based production duo Blackmale Beats, Shem Lawrence and Lukman Shoge, featuring the Black Thunder Sound System by James John Petith. |

Performance Construct Fashion Show Tate Britain and University of the Arts London’s widening participation programme have worked with over 30 young Londoners to explore artwork in the Tate Collection and dock by Phyllida Barlow. Their bold designs make a statement about inhabiting spaces. This is a ticketed event. and tickets available from the Manton Information desk from 18.00 on a first come first served basis. The A & The E The A and The E is a platform for the discussion of culture, philosophy and the arts, run by a collective of creatives from a number of different artistic disciplines. They will bring their unique brand of culture-based conversation with poems and discussions exploring ideas about nationality and belonging in response to the theme of inhabitation. Feminist tour Starting in Room 1890 join artist Sutapa Biswas to explore the representation of women in the Tate Collection, contemporary issues relating to the art market plus questions about feminism, gender and identity. |
Workshops Urban Canvas Light Graffiti Work with Urban Canvas Light Graffiti to experiment with light and motion, creating giant light paintings that wrap and envelop the space. Write words in the dark in response to dock by Phyllida Barlow and what it means to occupy space. Tickets available from the Manton Information desk from 18.00 on a first come first served basis. This is a ticketed event. Off The Grid How do the photos on your mobile phone digitally represent the places you identify with? Instant print an image from your phone and physically tag the spaces you inhabit on a mass participatory map, curated by artist Debbie Adele Cooper. Materials workshop Drop in to this workshop and work with artist and sculptor Mimi Winsor to create, experiment and play with materials live in the space, inspired by dock by Phyllida Barlow. Completely absurd, her installations are colourful and bold. |
