Vegan Ethiopian Cookery Class with Woin at The Duke of Cambridge October 2019

Learn the secrets to cooking a range of vegan-friendly Ethiopian dishes, followed by a sit-down dinner with Woin!

Message from Woin: "My name is Woin and I am from Ethiopia. Whilst living in Ethiopia I was always surrounded by my friends and family, so it has felt isolating at times living in the UK, and not having my people around me. What I really love about Migrateful is it gives me an opportunity to make friends, and feel that my Ethiopian culture is accepted and celebrated here. And I like being able to practice and improve my English. I have always enjoyed cooking and eating with company.

I love how Migrateful brings people together to learn about different cultures & cuisines. I mainly prepare vegan Ethiopian food because I eat vegan food every Wednesday and Friday which is the Ethiopian Christian tradition."

Migrateful is a cookery and language initiative where asylum seekers, refugees and migrants struggling to access employment in the UK due to legal and linguistic barriers, teach their traditional cuisines to the public.

What to expect

During a Migrateful cookery class, you will work within your group to prepare dishes to be served family-style. Some dishes are prepared by the chef and demonstrated to you while some dishes will have you preparing it from beginning to end, while learning our chef’s authentic techniques from their home country. Our classes appeal to those interested in learning international recipes, practising a different language and in meeting new people for a cultural exchange in an intimate home setting, as well as to those wishing to support migrants and refugees struggling to rebuild their lives.

Customers have reported: ‘It is an absolutely fantastic way to spend time with friends, meet new people, and learn about a culture and cooking in a cosy, well-equipped, fun and safe setting’.

Another told us the class was ‘an enriching way to spend an evening. Cooking and eating with new people, talking and learning about other lives, cuisines and cultures’.
