"Time and Spaces: The Solos Marrabenta" explored a crisis of identity, deconstructs cultural representations of a "pure" African body, PARTICULARLY the Mozambican body.
Since Gaining independence from Portugal in 1975, Mozambique has-been a land of social and political rifts All which -have seen an inflexible communist model Gradually make way for a weak democracy . This complex history is the carried in the Marrabenta, a musical form born in the 1950s from a mix of local and European influences.
The choreographer Panaibra Canda, founder of Mozambique's first contemporary dance company, researches a post- colonial body , HAS All which assimilated the historical ideas of nationalism , modernity and socialism, goal aussi a deep belief in the freedom of artistic expression. His solo is Accompanied by the guitarist Jorge Domingos Marrabenta.
