A Women Talk Special Evening

Come along to hear a talk by Frances Mensah Williams, author of the novel From Pasta to Pigfoot.

The exciting new novel From Pasta to Pigfoot is set in London and Ghana and combines all the elements of a contemporary romantic blockbuster with stunning descriptions of Ghana and the day-to-day lives of its young urban professionals in London and Africa.

Selected by WH Smith Travel as one of its summer promotions, the novel looks set to breathe new life into traditional commercial women’s fiction.

Showing a side of Africa that is rarely written about, a thriving society of ordinary middle-class professionals, From Pasta to Pigfoot tells the story of Faye Bonsu, a young black British woman of Ghanaian heritage, raised in the cosy surroundings of leafy, affluent Hampstead in north London. Following a disastrous night out that leaves her romantic dreams in tatters, she is forced to assess her sense of alienation from her African heritage.  Given the opportunity to visit the country of her birth, Faye is whisked out of her cosy London life and thrown into the hectic social whirlpool of Ghana where she meets a fascinating array of people. Through her adventures, Faye is forced to discover that no matter how far you travel, you can’t find love until you find yourself.

Ghanaian-born author Frances Mensah Williams will talk about her life, the inspiration behind From Pasta to Pigfoot and discuss the challenges for diversity in British fiction.
