Aar Maanta Minneapolis Residency - 08-12.04.15
Aar Maanta's April residency will mark his return to The Cedar (Minneapolis) after a groundbreaking and breathtaking performance on The Cedar's stage in January 2012. Cedar staff have since been asked "when is Aar Maanta coming back?" countless times by Somalis and non-Somalis. Aar Maanta's work is inspired by the struggle of Somali people and the beauty of Somali culture.
He is known as the "voice of the next generation of Somalis" and is famous for pioneering the mix of Somali music and themes with a live, dynamic, and multi-cultural band. Aar's residency will be instrumental in bringing together youth, elders, Somalis, world music lovers, students, and residents. His visit to Minnesota will help support the efforts of local Somali artists to further their artistic visions and develop their sound with supporting live instruments.
Aar Maanta will participate in workshops, classroom visits, and concerts during his week-long residency.
