Posted: Apr, 23rd 2015 Contributor: Bilen Shifferaw,

Join Us May 1-3 For "AFROFUTURISM | Conference: Designing New Narratives To Empower The African Diaspora"

Through a series of art happeningsperformanceslecturespanelsworkshopstheater piecesfilmmusicscholarly works, and community events we will collectively deconstruct Afrofuturism with structured themes as our lens: such as "Narrative as Technology", "Past Present Future Movements", & "Aesthetic Revolution"

A student-led conference on Afrofuturism as a cultural and aesthetic movement for the radical emancipation of people of color.  We explore myth-making and  interrogate questions of race and technology to unravel the various conceptions and plural manifestations of Afrofuturism.  In exploring many forms, we will thread past knowledge and future visions to critique present realities and chart the course towards radical emancipation.

This is a student run conference put on by Students of the African Diaspora & Project Africa of The New School.

The conference will be free for New School students and will be open to the public. To help offset the cost of the conference members, we as the general public (non-students) a suggested donation of $25 to attend the conference.
