Top Model of Colour plays a pivotal role in exposing models of colour into mainstream fashion, it provides a route for female and male models to enter a competition that would teach them all about the fashion industry and ultimately give them the knowledge and experience they need to break into mainstream fashion as well as giving them the chance to find out from professionals, their true potential to becoming a professional model’’

This years’ much anticipated Top Model Of Colour (TMC) competition was held at a luxurious hotel in London, guests and press were greeted with champagne in the grand room of the event. The evening’s hosts wore African patterned skirts which set the tone of the vibrant evening ahead.

The guests came into the event already buzzing, talking to each other about the clothes, hair and makeup that was on display and who their favourite competitors were. TMC has built up a reputation so no one arrived ‘fashionable late’! the guests knew how incredible the night would be - its Season 8 already.

Some of the fashion and beauty statements displayed JUST from the guests were: Leopard print boots and shoes, big black faux fur coats. Which isn’t for the faint hearted! One thing everyone agreed universally on was deep Red lipstick! It was on the lips of the hosts, guests and even models!

And as with any occasion the ‘selfie’ craze was to be seen throughout the night.

How it works:

There are 18 amateur models of African, Caribbean, Hispanic, Oriental, Asian & Dual heritage ethnicity battle it out for the number 1 spot – the coveted Top Model Of Colour season 8 winner.

They walk and strut down the catwalk with the glare of the celebrity judges critiquing the models every move. It’s a tense atmosphere but the fierce posing and eclectic energy given off from the models is a perfect balance.

The winner is chosen with a mixture of audience voting, narrowing it down to the final 11. Things heat up when quick fire question round is presented to the top 11 models. The questions were a balance of fashion history, modelling and also why each model thought they should win the top prize of being named Top Model Of Colour.

Every model that walked down runway was mesmerising so the competition was tough, but ultimately the judges had to pick the winner, the beautiful winner this year was one of the youngests competitors Kiane Ashman‐Swaby.
