1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair returns to Somerset House for its 7th edition this autumn, 3 - 6 October 2019.
The fair will welcome 45 carefully-selected international galleries, showcasing the works of 140 multidisciplinary artists of established and emerging profile. Check out who is this year's exhibitors.
The fair will also be accompanied by Special Projects which includes:
VERSANT SUD will present a solo exhibition of works by Ethiopian artist Leikun Nahusenay, created during his two-month residency in Marseille. Nahusenay will also create an in-situ artwork, live during the fair. VERSANT SUD offers a programme of residencies and artistic exchanges in two geographical areas, the southern region of France and African capital cities. The residency program helps to reveal talents, allows for the professionalization of artists, connects artists with collectors and plays a key role in enabling mobility. VERSANT SUD was launched in 2018, with its first program dedicated to Addis Ababa, capital of Ethiopia.
1-54 FORUM will also run in parallel to the fair over four afternoons of talks and panels curated by Kerryn Greenberg, Head of International Collection Exhibitions at Tate. The programme is dedicated to the formidable Nigerian curator Bisi Silva (1962-2019), founder of the Centre of Contemporary Art (CCA) Lagos who championed women artists and experimental artistic practices, prioritised research, publishing and pedagogy and nurtured the next generation of artists, curators, writers and art historians in Africa.
